The first YouTube awards (because we need another awards show) took place in New York last night and people that cared were able to tune in via web video. Lady Gaga's performed Dope and as she sat at her piano, a contrived display of emotion and crocodile tears began. Or was it? Watch for yourself as Gaga cries through the entire performance, singing off key and sounding like a drunk Liza Minelli trying to sing like Lana Del Rey. The performance is terrible.
One line in the song stands out to me, "I need you more than dope". Rumors are swirling that Gaga and her boyfriend of two years, Taylor Kinney, are on the verge of a break up. At the beginning of the video, Gaga is apologizing to her mom, family, fans and her lover. She then breaks down and cries throughout most of the song. Is she crying about how her drug use has ruined all the relationships that matter to her? Has her drug use caused her relationship with Kinney to deteriorate? This song and this performance could very well be a confession. The irony in my assumption is that I think she's high as a kite while singing this song!
When it comes to her love life, Stefani is extremely private. It's rare that she speaks about it and it's rare that you will see photos of her and Taylor together. She really tries to keep her relationship out of the public eye. So why was this photo released just after the rumors came out?
Damage control. It's common knowledge in Hollywood, when there's rumors of a couple about to split, planned photos are taken by tipping off the paparazzi of their location. Either publicists, agents or the celebrity themselves do the tipping off. Every single time the tabloids reported of a celebrity couple being on the rocks, the stories were always true. Eventually, the couple in question did split.
On top of all this, the L.A. Times is reporting that when Gaga started singing, 4000 viewers signed off, "During the three minutes or so that Gaga was on screen more than 4,000 viewers exited and continued to do so". Ouch!!
I actually feel a little sorry for her. There's that part of me believes that for once, this wasn't some contrived act. If it is, it proves that she's even worse of a scum bag than I thought.
Here's the thing though; let's assume Gaga has a serious drug problem and Taylor Kinney is at the end of his rope with her. She knows he's going to walk. What do drug addicts do? They lie, beg and try to get pity by manipulating the people they love. Gaga is definitely doing this with this performance. Even though she may feel whatever she's feeling, she has a strategy and this is a classic, textbook tactic. If her boyfriend is about to walk out the door, she brought this on herself. There's only so much sadness you can feel for someone who made their own bed. Gaga made a very private issue public. She's definitely trying to get the public's sympathy to deflect attention away from her being a complete phony, pretentious, and manipulative person.
Gaga, get help. Seriously. Your glorification of drug use finally caught up to you, whether it's pot or coke or alcohol. I think you're a phony and I don't like you as a human being. But you are a human being so get your shit together before you lose everything.
