Gaga's manager Vincent Herbert, reveals that Stefani is finishing up her latest album ARTPOP and says it's "very, very refreshing" and that Gaga continues to "push the envelope". I wonder if he got the envelope mixed up with the junk mail?
In all fairness, he is her manager. What's he supposed to say? That it's crap? A manager's job is to promote their clients so he's doing his job. ARTPOP has an equal chance at being a real hit as it does to being an over hyped project like Born This Way was. We'll only know once it's released.
Vincent Herbert was the same guy who claimed that Born This Way was an "insane" album. "Just insane, great records. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record.'' "Look out for the unexpected, when it comes to her - I'm very excited. We're doing it on the road right now, so it's very hard, but it's going to be great."
We all know how that story ended.
There should be lessons to learn from the failure of Born This Way. Sure, it sold copies. Not as many as reported but it wasn't a number to be ashamed of either. The truth is, the album only spawned one hit and that was the title track; and even the title track, as lousy and amateur as it is, will forever be known as Express Yourself II. Sadly for Gaga, that is going to follow her around for the rest of her career and life.
Each single released after Born This Way failed to meet the hopes and expectations of Gaga and her team. The Edge of Glory, Judas, Marry the Night and You and I were massive failures that radio stations everywhere eventually took the singles off their playlists. Marry the Night, Gaga's opus, peaked at only No.29 on the Billboard Music Charts.
Let's go back in time to May 17th, 2011 and read an article on NME.
Let's not forget the very well written post Lady Gaga's Born This Way Era "What Went Wrong?"
Over a year after it's release, Gaga toured the album. In Helsinki, Gaga claimed that Born This Way was a "test". Is that her excuse for a lackluster album she once proclaimed to be "the album of the decade"? If you can stomach the pandering, check out the video. If not, skip to the 49 second mark.
Even DJ White Shadow is slamming his foot on the gas pedal in the hype car.
Does he mean in a "don't be a drag. Just be a queen" brilliant?
Gaga herself is hyping ARTPOP, calling it "a very risky assault on your mind and body. My favorite thing about Born This Way album is that it was risky…and its own thing. ARTPOP is very risky…if you’re not taking a risk you’re not breaking any boundaries.”

So Born This Way was "risky" and ARTPOP is "very risky". Could this be a classic case of history repeating itself or will Gaga really break boundaries as she so brazenly claims?
Well, let's wait and see but if this little snippet of Red Flame by Azealia Banks is a preview of ARTPOP, I don't see how this is even remotely close to "boundary breaking".
